Halloween Popcorn Balls

Halloween is drawing near and what would Halloween be without popcorn balls? While there are many variations on the Halloween popcorn ball, I have included a simple one below as well as some suggestions for ways to vary the recipe a bit. You are only limited by your creativity. Each of these yummy popcorn treats can be wrapped in plastic wrap for easy distribution this Halloween. Another option would be to put a popsicle stick in each for easy handling. You can make these popcorn balls up to 3 days in advance.

Recipe:
  • 8 cups popcorn
  • 1 cup candy corn(there are a variety of flavors*)
  • 1 bag of marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup butter - plus extra to grease hands
  • optional: orange food coloring
In a large bowl, mix together popcorn and candy corn. Melt butter in pan and add marshmallows to butter, stir constantly until all marshmallows are melted. Add food coloring now is you choose. Pour butter/marshmallow mixture over popcorn and candy corn. Be careful as this will be hot to handle, so use a large spoon to mix together. Once mixture has cooled a bit, form popcorn mixture into balls - whatever size you choose. You can get 15-20 popcorn balls that are 2 inches in diameter.

* Flavors that should be available around Halloween include: Caramel Apple Candy Corn, Caramel Candy Corn, and the traditional Candy Corn.

Variations: Instead of Candy corn, you could substitute M&M's, raisins, dried fruit, or gummy candies.
